Retail Credit Controller
Role Description
Location: Midrand, South Africa
Full-time and Office based
Reporting Line: National Credit Manager
Job Purpose
The successful candidate will oversee the complete credit control function within the retail accounts
receivable department.
Recruitment Specialist
- Perform full-function credit control
- Resolve all queries related to proof of delivery, goods returned, rebates, or claims within a reasonable timeframe
- Coordinate with warehouse and sales staff on credit control issues
- Assume responsibility for performance and duties as outlined by company policy
- Complete monthly debtor reconciliations
- Address outstanding queries daily
- Forecast monthly cash flow and banking needs
- Process daily receipts, age debtor accounts accurately, and assist cash book clerks in resolving queries
- Provide daily support to other departments, including sales and warehouse
- Report payment defaults to the Retail Credit Manager
- Achieve monthly collection targets and reduce days sales outstanding
- Complete monthly statements and close-off procedures
Experience and Knowledge:
- At least 5 years of relevant experience in retail credit control
- Strong understanding of the National Credit Act or related legislation
- Advanced Excel proficiency, including Pivot Tables and VLOOKUP
Skills and Education:
- Matric with mathematics is essential; a relevant financial tertiary qualification is preferred
- Own transport with a valid driver’s license
- Strong reconciliation and administrative skills
- Ability to work independently and without direct supervision
- Excellent time management: deadline-driven, organized, able to plan and prioritize high workloads
- Advanced computer skills in MS Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint
- Ability to perform well under pressure in a high-stress environment
- Exceptional communication, writing, and interpersonal skills
- Willingness to go the extra mile to achieve success
- Tech-savvy and proficient with numbers for basic calculations
